Check it out! Use of Names, Forms and Packaging that Cannot be Halal Certified
Assalamu’alaikum Sobat Halal-Mu
In MUI Fatwa Number 44 of 2020 concerning the Use of Names, Forms and Packaging that Cannot Be Halal Certified, what is meant by:
Products are goods and / or services related to food, beverages, medicines, cosmetics, chemical products, biological products, genetically modified products, and goods used, used, or utilized by the public.
Halal certified products are products that can be processed for halal certification. Products that are not halal certified are products that cannot be processed for halal certification.
‘Urf is everything that has been recognized by humans because it has become a habit or tradition, whether in the nature of words, actions, or in relation to leaving certain actions.
The following products cannot be certified halal:
- Products that use names and / or symbols of kufr, immorality, and / or negative connotations;
- Products that use the names of haraam objects/animals, except: those that have been traditionally (‘urf) confirmed not to contain prohibited ingredients; which according to the general view there is no concern about the interpretation of the permissibility of consuming the haraam animal; which has another relevant meaning and has been empirically used in general.
- Products in the shape of pigs and dogs with various designs;
- Products that use packaging with pigs and dogs as the main focus;
- Products that have the taste/flavor of haraam objects or animals;
- Products that use packaging that is shaped and/or has erotic and pornographic images.
