Ruling on the Use of Gold Particles in Cosmetic Products for Men
Assalamu’alaikum Sobat Halal-Mu
Islamic teachings encourage adornment (tazayyun), and cosmetics have become one of the needs of humans in general, which must be considered that the cosmetics that will be used by every Muslim must be made from halal and pure.
The development of technology has been able to produce various cosmetic products that use gold particles. What is the law on the use of gold particles in cosmetic products for men?
The word of Allah SWT, among others:
“O children of Adam, wear good jewelry at every entrance to the mosque, eat and drink but do not overdo it. Indeed, Allah does not like those who exaggerate.” (QS. Al-A’raf, 7: 13)
“Say: ‘Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has issued for His slaves and (who has forbidden) good sustenance?’ Say: ‘They are (reserved) for those who believe in life, for them alone on the Day of Resurrection.’ Thus We explain the verses for those who know” (QS. al-A`raf [7]: 32).
- A gold particle is the smallest piece of gold.
- Gold particles are derived from gold salts (commonly found in nature), then reduced to obtain pure gold particles (Au). These emasi particles are then further processed to produce gold particles in very small sizes (nano particles). These gold particles are then dissolved in a liquid material. The solution containing these gold particles is then used as a cosmetic ingredient.
