How Many Years Does a Halal Certificate Last?

Assalamu’alaikum Sobat Halal-Mu

Halal Certificate is a recognition of the halalness of a product issued by BPJPH based on a written halal fatwa or determination of Product halalness by MUI, Provincial MUI, Regency / City MUI, Aceh Ulama Consultative Assembly, or Halal Product Fatwa Committee.

Business Actors who have obtained a Halal Certificate are obliged to:

  1. include a Halal Label on Products that have received a Halal Certificate;
  2. maintain the halalness of Products that have obtained a Halal Certificate;
  3. separate the location, place and slaughter, processing equipment, storage, packaging, distribution, sale, and presentation between Halal and non-halal Products;
  4. renew the Halal Certificate if there is a change in the composition of Ingredients and / or PPH; and
  5. report changes in the composition of ingredients and / or PPH to BPJPH.

However, as with other licenses or certifications, halal certificates also have a validity period that business actors need to pay attention to. Then, how long is the validity period of the halal certificate? The following is an explanation.

Halal Certificate Validity Period

In Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) Number 2 of 2022 Cipta Kerja the validity period of the current halal certificate is fixed, as long as there is no change in the composition of ingredients and / or processes of halal products.

If the composition of the ingredients and / or PPH changes, the Halal Certificate must be renewed and report changes in the composition of the ingredients and / or PPH to BPJPH.

Halal Certification Process

To renew a halal certificate, businesses must go through a recertification process that is almost similar to the first certification process. Some of the stages in this process include:

  1. Application Submission: Business actors apply for halal certification to an accredited Halal Examining Organization (LPH), one of which is LPH-KHT Muhammadiyah.
  2. Halal Audit: LPH will conduct a halal audit of the product and production process to ensure compliance with applicable halal standards.
  3. Certificate Issuance: If the products and production processes have met the requirements, a halal fatwa has been issued by KF MUI, a new halal certificate will be issued.

What happens if the Halal Certificate is not renewed?

If there is a change in the composition of the ingredients and/or product but it is not renewed, then the product cannot be considered a halal product. This can affect the trust of consumers who prioritize the halalness of the products they consume. Therefore, it is very important for business actors to renew halal certificates if there are changes in the composition of ingredients and / or products.

Halal Certificate Renewal / Development can be done at LPH-KHT Muhammadiyah.
