Vaccines and Vaccinations, Healthy Efforts for Muslims
First Friday Sermon Text
The Muslims are mercy of Allah.
On the occasion of this Friday sermon, let us offer thanks to Allah SWT for all the blessings of good health and enjoyment. For those who still don’t have the opportunity to perform Friday prayers due to the Islamic udzur, may Allah make all their affairs easier.
As a form of gratitude, let us increase the quality of our faith and devotion to Allah SWT, with true devotion, so that we are able to realize ourselves as servants chosen by Allah as noble servants in His Side.
Happy Muslims.
Treatment efforts as a form of effort must be carried out. Therefore, experts, including in this case, the government, are obliged to carry out these efforts and provide all related needs.
This order for treatment is in accordance with the hadith of the Prophet SAW which reads:
Indeed, Allah created both the disease and the cure. Therefore, seek treatment, but do not seek treatment with the harama [HR al-Thabrani].
The obligation of experts and the government to provide treatment needs is in line with QS. Al-Nahl: 43, Allah says:
ask someone who has knowledge if you don’t know.
Also in line with the rules of fiqh,
The leader’s policy towards his people must be in accordance with the benefit.
Jum’ah congregation attendees, Rahimakumullah.
What the khatib explained earlier shows that every element of society must try to protect the soul from all diseases. For health experts, it is mandatory to make a set of medical devices that bring benefit. The government is obliged to provide all the necessities needed by medical experts. And for the community in general it is obligatory to make efforts to protect lives so that they do not perish.
As stated in QS. Al Baqarah verse 195 and al-Maidah verse 32, Muslims are ordered to survive as much as possible. In the hadith narrated by al-Darimi it is also stated that health is a pleasure bestowed by Allah. In fact, this was reinforced by the statement of the Prophet so that a Muslim does not plunge himself into harm and even bring harm to other people.
On the other hand, currently our society and the entire world community are facing the condition of the Covid-19 outbreak which is increasingly widespread and even out of control. Facing the Covid-19 emergency that is still ongoing and has not yet shown a sloping graph, there needs to be immediate action to deal with this emergency.
In QS. Al-Rad verse 11, Allah SWT says:
Surely Allah will not change the condition of a people before they change their own condition.
Vaccination is one of the efforts to change the current pandemic situation towards a better normal state. Because the maximum effort to end the pandemic for the sake of protecting souls is part of religious teachings. Not only that, vaccination also plays an important role in maintaining the continuity of a strong and healthy generation.
In accordance with a fragment of the hadith of the Prophet which reads,
Indeed, strong believers are better and more loved by Allah than weak believers. In everything there is goodness, so you should always try everything that is beneficial to you, and ask Allah for help, and don’t be weak, (HR Muslim).
Text of the Second Friday Khutbah
