Ruling on Eating Bulus Meat

Assalamu’alaikum Sobat Halal-Mu

In the development of the food industry, there are ingredients that use bulus meat, is bulus meat or processed bulus meat including halal consumption?

The word of Allah SWT in QS. Al-Maidah: 4 about everything that is good is halal; “They ask you: ‘What is lawful for them?’ Say: “All that is good is forbidden to you.”

QS. Al-A’raf: 157 about everything that is good is halal, and everything that is bad is forbidden; “And Allah has made lawful for them all that is good, and forbidden for them all that is bad”.

In the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Fatwa Number 51 of 2019 on the Law of Eating Bulus Meat, what is meant by Bulus is a land animal that lives in water and is not an amphibian, a type of soft-shelled turtle that is a member of the Trionychidae tribe. In English, this animal is known as the Asiatic soft shell turtle or common soft shell turtle. Bulus breathes using its lungs.

Bulus is a halal animal for consumption (ma’kul al-lahmi) on condition that it is slaughtered in a shar’i manner. Bulus in an area designated as endangered animals must be protected.
